Join us for the first virtual connect session PINES is hosting. Each session will include a short presentation and some time for questions and general networking.

Food provision for major events: past, present and future

Presented by Professor Fiona Pelly – President of PINES

Fiona will provide an overview of her experience reviewing menus and working with caterers at major events, based on her research and practice over the past 20 years. She will discuss enablers and barriers to progressing food delivery in this challenging environment. There will be an opportunity for PINES members to ask questions and generate discussion.

Presenter profile 

Biography: Professor Fiona Pelly is the president of PINES and the Discipline Leader in Nutrition and Dietetics at the University of the Sunshine Coast (USC) Queensland, Australia. Fiona is a Fellow of Dietitians Australia and of Sports Dietitians Australia, and Pelly has over 30 years’ experience as an Accredited Practising Dietitian, including 27 years in the area of sports nutrition with extensive experience in private practice and consultancy to The Wiggles (10 years), the Australian National Rugby League (NRL), and individual athletes. She has worked at USC as an academic since 2004.

Fiona is internationally recognised for her expertise on food provision at major sporting competition events and has evaluated the menu and food provision for the Olympic and Commonwealth Games for over 20 years. Fiona’s research has investigated stakeholder perspective on various aspects of catering and nutrition programs, and she is interested in models to improve food service delivery at major events. Fiona’s other research interests include the translation of knowledge about nutrition and nutrient requirements into food and whole diets, determinants of food choice, diet quality, and eating behaviours in both athletes and the general population.

Working Group EOI – Food provision at major events 

PINES is calling for member with suitable experience to join a working group interested in food provision at major events.

Potential activities of the group will be:

  • Connection with others and ability to generate discussion via Facebook group
  • Review of menus/ food provision for major events
  • Writing of relevant documents/ articles for PINES
  • Involvement with research activities
  • Connection with expert group at events such as the Olympic Games
