How to Meet PINES Members and Grow Your Careers

What makes PINES different from other professional sports nutrition organizations?

1) PINES enables aspiring sport nutrition professionals from around the globe to connect and learn from each other.

2) PINES provides a venue for established sport nutrition clinicians, educators, and researchers from around the globe to share their knowledge and help both aspiring and experienced sports dietitians.

Here are monthly PINES opportunities for you to meet your peers, network, and grow your careers:

Hour-long Member Present & Connect sessions:

A speaker will share state-of-the-art research for about 30 minutes and then have 30 minutes for discussion and networking.

Half-hour Mentoring/Mastermind Sessions:

Led by an experienced sports nutrition professional, you’ll get answers to your questions about how to establish/grow your business. Topics could focus on how to get your foot in the door; whether or not to measure body composition, how to counsel athletes with low energy availability, etc.

Half-hour Coffee Break Conversations:

These member-led informal 30-minute sessions will address the questions that happen to be on your mind and offer an informal space to network and meet other PINES members. Show up and let the conversation flow! For example, perhaps you are curious about pre-exercise foods from around the globe, practical tips for travelling with a team, and of course, we will want to share global holiday food traditions at the December Virtual Holiday Party.

Alice Sharples

Sydney

Alice is a performance nutritionist working in Australia. Originally from New Zealand, she developed an interest in sports nutrition through her own involvement in athletics and field hockey. This led her to complete a Bachelor of Applied Science in Sports Nutrition at the University of Otago, followed by the International Olympic Committee Diploma in Sports Nutrition and a Master of Science with Distinction in Sport Nutrition from the University of Stirling.

Alice began her career working across women’s and men’s high-performance sport in New Zealand, supporting athletes in rugby, football and basketball. These roles gave her valuable experience translating sports nutrition science into practical strategies and working collaboratively within multidisciplinary performance teams.

Alice transitioned to Australia, where she has continued her career working with rugby league athletes and swimmers. Alongside her applied work she undertook a PhD through the University of Technology Sydney, investigating the factors associated with nutrition and sleep in rugby league athletes.

Alice is passionate about strengthening the sports nutrition profession through collaboration, connection and the exchange of knowledge. She values the opportunity to learn from practitioners with diverse experiences and perspectives and feels privileged to contribute to PINES and its global professional community.
