Rowena Visagie

South Africa

Rowena Visagie is a dietitian from Cape Town (South Africa), specialising in sports nutrition. She has 20 years of experience, having worked with athletes from a variety of sports from Olympic level to recreational. She has a BSc (Hons) in Nutrition and Dietetics (UCT), and in Sports Science (Stell.), as well as the IOC Sports Nutrition diploma. She recently completed her MSc (Med) in Musculoskeletal Science (UCT) with a focus on relative energy deficiency in sport (REDs). Her clinical focus is on performance nutrition, and prevention and treatment of REDs, disordered eating and eating disorders in athletes. She is a former professional triathlete and represented South Africa at 8 World Championships. Currently she loves mountain biking, trail running and masters swimming.



Sarah Chantler

England

Sarah is a Registered Dietitian from South Africa, having completed her graduate and masters degrees at the University of Cape Town. She is currently working in sport while completing her PhD at Leeds-Beckett university in the UK. Her PhD is focused on gut health and gut permeabiltiy in response to rugby, and she assists with teaching at the university as well. Balancing these different aspects is part of her ideal work-life balance as it keeps her on her toes. She loves to travel, spend time in the mountains or in the sea, and go running when possible.

Hashan Amarathunga

Sri Lanka

Dr. Hashan Amarathunga is a pioneering Sports Nutrition Physician from Sri Lanka, holding an MBBS, an MD in Clinical Nutrition, an MSc in Human Nutrition, and an IOC Diploma in Sports Nutrition. As the first physician to specialize in sports nutrition within Sri Lanka Cricket, he plays a key role in integrating advanced nutritional strategies into the national cricket framework. Dr. Amarathunga’s expertise extends beyond cricket, as he is actively involved in promoting sports nutrition across multiple sports disciplines in the country. He is dedicated to enhancing athletes’ performance and well-being through evidence-based nutritional interventions. In addition to his clinical work, Dr. Amarathunga is a published author, having written the only book on sports hydration in the Sinhala language, and is engaged in research on vitamin D deficiency and caffeine metabolism in athletes. He aims to elevate the role of sports nutrition in Sri Lanka’s sporting culture.

Maged Ossama

Egypt

Dr. Maged Ossama Aly is a highly experienced clinical and sports nutrition physician with a strong focus on optimizing athletic performance through nutrition. He holds a PhD in Nutrition from Alexandria University and IOC Sports Nutrition Diploma.

 

With extensive experience teaching at various institutions, including Tanta University and the University of Sadat City, Dr. Aly specializes in educating future professionals on the role of nutrition in athletic performance, hydration, and recovery. He is currently a visiting lecturer at the American University in Cairo (AUC), where he teaches courses related to sports nutrition and dietary supplements.

 

Dr. Aly is an active member of global nutrition organizations such as the American Society for Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition (ASPEN) and Professionals in Nutrition for Exercise and Sport (PINES) where he serves as Egypt’s global representative. He regularly contributes to international conferences and publishes research focused on topics like dietary supplements for athletes, performance-enhancing nutrition, and the effects of fasting on physically active individuals. His dedication to the field has earned him numerous accolades, including the ASPEN International Parenteral Nutrition Early Career Development Grant.

Cushla Holdway

New Zealand

Cushla is a Sports Dietitian based in Canterbury, New Zealand. After completing her Master’s degree at Otago University, she gained invaluable experience working in various clinical settings nationwide. In more recent years, Cushla fulfilled her dream of establishing a full-time private practice, specializing in the nutrition of endurance athletes, particularly runners, as well as addressing RED-S, disordered eating, and diabetes management.

She engages with clients virtually across New Zealand and internationally, and also practices at Sports Doctors Ltd clinic in Christchurch. In addition to her client work, Cushla creates online nutrition courses, hosts podcasts, and provides educational seminars for diverse population and sporting groups. She proudly serves as the lead dietitian for the NZ Defence Force at the Burnham base.

Outside of her professional pursuits, Cushla is a keen runner, often found exploring local trails or training in the gym, fully embracing her passion for health and fitness.

Isabel Martinez

Philippines

Isabel Martinez is a nutrition scientist and sports dietitian who specializes in gastrointestinal
issues in endurance and ultra-endurance athletes. Aside from her dietetic credentials both
in the Philippines and USA, she earned her Master of Science inn Kinesiology from the
University of Illinois and holds a Diploma in Sports Nutrition from the International Olympic
Committee as the program’s scholarship recipient. Isabel is currently a doctoral candidate at
Monash University in Australia investigating management strategies for exercise-associated
gastrointestinal symptoms. She assists in teaching several course units such as exercise
physiology, sports nutrition, and precision and personalised nutrition, and is involved in
various sports nutrition consulting which includes exercise testing services and development
of sports nutrition products. When not in the lab, you will likely find her outside running or
windsurfing down at the bay.

Masaharu Kagawa

Japan

Dr. Masaharu Kagawa BSc(Hons) PhD is an Associate Professor of the Institute of Nutrition Sciences at Kagawa Nutrition University in Japan. Masa is a Registered Public Health Nutritionist of the Nutrition Society of Australia (NSA) and the only Japanese Level 4 (Criterion) anthropometrist of the International Society for the Advancement of Kinanthropometry (ISAK). As an anthropometrist, Masa has experience working with athletes of different competition levels to date, especially athletes in rugby, baseball, futsal, athletics, and para-powerlifting. Masa has been a Board member and the Chair of the International Exchange Committee of the Japan Sports Nutrition Association (JSNA), a professional body of experts in the field of Sports Nutrition that is an organizational member of PINES. Masa has broad research interests in the fields of Public Health, Nutrition and Sports Sciences, particularly on topics of obesity and health screening, body image, validation of body composition assessment methods, and maternal and child health from cross-ethnic, cross-cultural perspectives.
