Conference preview for the annual SCAN symposium

Join other dietitian nutritionists (RDN) who are interested in the combined impact of nutrition and physical activity on health at the 35th Annual Sports, Cardiovascular, and Wellness Nutrition (SCAN) Symposium.  SCAN is the largest practice group of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (AND), which is the largest organization of RDN in the United States. This year’s symposium is titled, “Navigating the Path of Wellness”, and will be held in Phoenix, Arizona, April 26-28th, 2019. The goal of the 2019 symposium is to explore evidence-driven wellness/well-being approaches and techniques complementary to medical nutrition therapy and nutrition counseling for sports and cardiovascular nutrition to improve overall performance, health, and quality of life. There is a strong emphasis on practical applications, skills, and knowledge.

Wellness encompasses many dimensions and includes emotional, physical, intellectual, spiritual, environmental, and social aspects of food, nutrition, health and performance. By integrating best practices within these different areas of wellness, the RDN will have more tools to support clients, patients, and athletes.

This year’s topics range from ‘‘Helping Athletes Navigate Life After Sport” and “Intuitive and Mindful eating to help Sport Nutrition Clients, to ‘Treating Competitive Athletes with Eating Disorders, and Food Insecurity in our Schools and Sports programs.
