Member Profile: Kinita Kadakia Patel

Let me begin by giving you a brief introduction of myself, I am Kinita Kadakia Patel, founder of MEALpyramid. MEALpyramid is a nutrition based consulting center specializing in sports-specific diets with two centers in Mumbai, India.

I hold a graduate (BHSc.) and post-graduate degree (MSc.) in Dietetics with research in Sports Nutrition.

Additionally, I have done certificate and diploma courses with the following groups

·        The Oxford College – London

·        Sports Dietetics Association – Australia

·        International Sports Science Association – USA

I am the global representative for PINES in India. My associations are with many of India’s’ leading schools and sports teams. I work very closely with cricket in India as the Sports Nutritionist for the Mumbai Indians team of the Indian Premier League, National Cricket Academy and many individual athletes. I also head the Nutrition Department at the Exercise Science Academy by ACSM in Mumbai and have been a member of the Commonwealth Games Food Planning Committee 2010 that took place in Delhi, India. I was core faculty and organizer for the yearly Summit of ESA-Fit and Nutri-ESA [an evidence based conference associated with ACSM]. I was covered as the sports nutritionist for the Netflix series Cricket Fever.

In addition to various other affiliations, recognitions and awards, I have been awarded as the “Best Nutritionist of the Year 2013”, by Vogue Magazine. I have also most recently written and published a book for Random House on Sports Nutrition titled “The Athlete in You”. 

Besides being a practicing sports nutritionist, I am lecturer, columnist, a fitness enthusiast and a mother. I am marathoner, swimmer and HIIT workout lover.

Finally, to sum it up India is slowly becoming aware and taking the profession of Sports Nutrition more seriously. As a representative of PINES I am thrilled to work closely with global partners in order to broaden the organisation’s reach bring awareness to the sports nutrition profession in this vast country.
